Stachytarpheta cayennensis

This sweet and hardy, but delicate herb grows as a shrub; and is a beautiful delight in the garden bringing bees and butterflies galore. There are several European species of Vervain that have been used by Europeans and different cultures worldwide as a medicine and as a sacred religious plant. This species is a tropical variety of the Verbana family. It grows green variegated leaves and swirly stalks that produce tiny mushroom flavored purple flowers. Found throughout the tropics and Asia this medicinal herb has been used by Indigenous cultures and Amazon tribes for years.

Tropical Blue Vervain is a wonderful nervine and neuroprotective herb for the body. Calming to the nerves, reducing stress and anxiety, and acting as a mild sedative for smooth and skeletal muscle. Good for any stress related issues, nervous exhaustion, or healing of emotional crisis and grief. The spirit of the plant aids in balancing the sacral chakra and carries a feminine energy that supports us in times of transformation and change opening the gate to the sacred mind state and lucid dreams.

Great as a protective to the gastric tract by expelling worms as an anti-parasitic and helps in reducing acid-reflux. It is anti-viral, antibiotic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-fungal making it a great medicinal plant for cleansing the body (diuretic), strengthening, and protecting the liver, for aid as a mild laxative, and for use as a vulnerary (wound healing) for cleaning external wounds and sores. Commonly used throughout history as a respiratory tonic assisting with asthma, colds and flu, bronchitis, and coughs. This gorgeous medicinal herb is one of our favorites to use a few fresh leaves in green juices and to drink as a tea for relaxing before meditation or bed.
