Gaia meaning Earth, was the ancient Greek Goddess of the Earth. The Earth personified as a goddess and daughter of Chaos. She was the mother and wife of Uranus (Heaven) and their offspring included the Titans and the Cyclops. In Hawaiian, Gaia is called 'Honua' meaning earth or 'Aina', meaning land. It is commonly used as "Aloha ʻĀina", which literally means "love of the land" it is a central idea of ancient Hawaiian thought and culture. The concept is felt by many people in Hawaiʻi as a focus of ecological and cultural understanding that emphasizes the connection between the land and the people.
The Gaia hypothesis, states that the living and nonliving components of earth function as a single system in such a way that the living component regulates and maintains conditions necessary for the continuance of life. The planet, or rather the biosphere, is thus likened to a vast self-regulating organism.
All the more reason for us to help in conserving Mother Earth and all it's abundance by respecting her, honoring the plant and animal spirits of Gaia, and educating others to live a sustainable life, one that enriches our soul as well as Gaia's; and is represented through Aloha ʻĀina,
This is one of our main missions at the Green Witch Apothecary to bring humanity back to our roots by educating others on how we can use all of mother earth's abundance through our own local sustainable farming, herbal medicine, and healthy lifestyle to bring us back to Mother Earth Spirit, being one with the land where we respect, honor, and love the Aina!
